Seabury Residents Compete in The Beacon's Celebration of the Arts

Four residents of Seabury at Friendship Terrace and three residents from Seabury at Springvale Terrace submitted nine entries in The Beacon Celebration of the Arts.

The Beacon Newspapers' “Celebration of the Arts” is a year-long program, in partnership with the Maryland Federation of Art, designed to entice individuals ages 50 and over throughout the Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia region to try a new artistic endeavor, and then to enter their best work in a regional competition in one or more of four categories. The four categories are painting and drawing, 3-D/mixed media artwork, photography, and poetry.

Seabury at Friendship Terrace residents Elizabeth Robinson and Monica Mieroszewska both submitted poems (both are participants in the Friendship Terrace Poetry Club), and residents Dapthan Nguyen and Ruth Ostrove submitted watercolor paintings (both are part of the Watercolor Classes at Friendship Terrace).

All of the entrants from Seabury at Springvale Terrace are part of Springvale’s Art Therapy Classes. They are Irma Camou, Leola Sylvain, and Sharyn Aplebaum (Aplebaum submitted two paintings and a sculpture).

The Judging for the contest takes place between July 5th and July 20th. All entries will become visible to the public on July 25 at www.mdfedart.com/BeaconCelebration. Notifications to winners will be sent via e-mail on August 10.

There will be three winners in each of the four categories. Life-size color photographs of the winners’ pieces will the shown through the Fall in Art Shows and at Senior Expos.
