Gail Kohn has served and advocated for older adults for over 40 years. She has consistently been at the forefront of providing affordable, accessible, and inclusive places to age with empowerment, dignity, and independence. Her work as the founding Executive Director for both Collington and Capitol Hill Village, and recent work, as the first to lead the Age Friendly DC initiative as part of a global mission, has advanced creative solutions for and with people to age in the most supportive, inclusive places possible.
Ahead of 2025's Leadership in Aging, Seabury sat down with Gail Kohn, the 2025 Individual Honoree, to talk about her career, affordable housing for seniors, and how her professional and personal views on how to make stable senior housing accessible and affordable have shifted over the years.
Some key highlights:
5:45 "Housing is about choices."
7:09 "Loneliness and isolation is a problem for us."
8:58 "What I like about Seabury is there is a real focus on becoming part of the community wherever the housing is."
10:04 "We've benefitted greatly from Seabury as a city (DC)."
16:59 "You’re trying to deliver a message, and I’m trying to deliver a message, that growing older is part of life."
19:44 on home sharing: "Having a relationship with somebody who might start out as a stranger…is just an opportunity and it breaks down this generational stuff."
Seabury Resources is proud to honor Gail Kohn at the 2025 Leadership in Aging event. Thank you Gail for all your years of service!
