Seabury Savvy Caregiver Program Helps Fight Caregiver Burnout

We talk about caregiver burnout, but do not seem to take any action? Seabury Resources for Aging Ward 5 Savvy Caregiver Program (SCP) was designed to help caregivers with the knowledge, skills and attitude to successfully care for family members living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia's. The SCP was a series of 6 classes for DC Caregivers who provide care for older DC adults (aged 60 +) and/or adults with disabilities (age 18 +) who are living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of cognitive impairment. June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

We don’t talk about elder abuse very often. It’s time to change that. We might avoid the conversation because the numbers are staggering. The Administration for Community Living reports that each year over five million older adults are neglected, exploited, or abused. Elder abuse looks different in every context. Abuse can happen through physical harm, sexual assault, financial exploitation, emotional abuse, or even neglect and abandonment. Regardless of its form, elder abuse is common, and too often goes unnoticed. We might avoid the conversation because we don’t know what to do.
