Seabury Savvy Caregiver Program Helps Fight Caregiver Burnout
We talk about caregiver burnout, but do not seem to take any action? Seabury Resources for Aging Ward 5 Savvy Caregiver Program (SCP) was designed to help caregivers with the knowledge, skills and attitude to successfully care for family members living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia's. The SCP was a series of 6 classes for DC Caregivers who provide care for older DC adults (aged 60 +) and/or adults with disabilities (age 18 +) who are living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of cognitive impairment. This Seabury Resources for Aging, Ward 5 program is part of the Senior Services Network supported by the DC Department of Aging and Community Living.
The series of 6 classes were led by Ward 5 Case Management Coordinator, Melva M. Meade, LICSW and Caregiver Case Manager, Eleanor L. Turner, LICSW. The class curriculum was:
Introduction to Savvy Caregiver
Strategies for Self-Care
Contented Involvement
Stages of Dementia
Care-giving Skills
Strengthening Family Resources
