2018 Leadership In Aging Awards May 17

April 20, 2018, Washington, D.C. - The Board of Directors of Seabury Resources for Aging is pleased to announce Ron Swanda as the recipient of the 2018 Leadership in Aging Award and Annie’s Ace Hardware as the 2018 Community Partner. The awards recognize individuals and organizations who have made a significant contribution to improve the lives of older adults and family caregivers in the greater Washington D.C. area.Seabury will honor them both at the Leadership in Aging Awards Celebration to be held at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater on Thursday, May 17 from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm.

Ron Swanda has dedicated his life to serving the community at large. First, while serving in the Air Force and now in retirement as a Volunteer Advocate for seniors in Washington D.C. Mr. Swanda served as Vice-chair of the D.C. Commission on Aging and currently serves on the Age-Friendly D.C. Task Force and the AARP-DC Executive Council. He also serves as a member of Seabury’s Care Management Advisory Council and the Seabury Ward 6 Senior Advisory Council. Prior to retiring Mr. Swanda was a senior executive with a trade association representing the manufacturers of general aviation airplanes.

Since 2016, Annie’s Ace Hardware has partnered with Seabury’s Age-In-Place® (AIP) program. Annie’s has been a

collection site for the AIP’s Stuff the Shed donation drive which gathers program supplies. In addition Annie’s has done a cash register round up program to benefit AIP and Annie’s employees have volunteered with AIP too. Annie’s business partners Anne Stom and Thomas Vedrody share a belief that businesses should find partnerships within their communities. We are proud to call them our Community Partner.

The year’s event includes a cocktail reception, auction, and award presentation. Seabury Resources for Aging is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide personalized, affordable services and housing options to help older adults in the greater Washington, D.C. area live with independence and dignity. Event proceeds will benefit low-income older adults in the Washington metropolitan area with social services, meals, housing, transportation, and help with home maintenance.
