The Board of Seabury Resources for Aging is proud to announce its 2015 Leadership in Aging Honorees:
Joseph E. Resch, Jr, Seabury Resources for Aging – 2015 Leadership in Aging Award
With nearly 40 years of experience in the field of elder care, Mr. Resch used his knowledge and leadership to help Seabury grow quality services to respond to the needs of older adults in the Washington, DC area. Mr. Resch became the administrator of Seabury at Friendship Terrace in 1986 and, later, the Executive Director of Seabury in 1990 and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2013. During Mr. Resch’s tenure, Seabury created the Care Management service and Congregational Resources program and assumed the management of Home First Residences, and Seabury at Springvale Terrace living communities, Seabury Wards 5 and 6 Aging and Disability Resource Centers, Seabury’s Age-In-Place ® program, Seabury Connector transportation, and the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Through his vision, Seabury created annual events to raise elder care awareness, expanded fundraising sources and cultivated a network of more than 3,000 volunteers. The organization has grown from serving 250 people in Washington, DC in 1990 to more than 15,000 people in the greater Washington metro area today. “As our understanding of aging has changed, Seabury has evolved to create, improve, and expand services to meet the needs of the community. We will continue to be a resource for older adults seeking guidance and assistance,” Mr. Resch says.
Mr. Resch will retire as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Seabury this December. He has worked with aging organizations since 1976, including: AARP, the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, the University of Michigan’s Institute of Gerontology and the Roosevelt Residence for Senior Citizens in Washington, DC. Mr. Resch earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling and a Master’s Level Certificate in Aging.
Robert and Mary Elyn McNichols, McNichols & Associates – 2015 Community Partner Leadership Award
Seabury Resources for Aging’s 2015 Community Partner Leadership Award will be presented to Robert and Mary Elyn McNichols at Seabury’s Leadership in Aging Celebration on May 31, 2015 at the National Press Club.
To recognize outstanding leadership and contributions from individuals and organizations who partner with Seabury Resources for Aging to further its mission and improve the lives of older adults in the greater Washington, DC area, Seabury has established the Community Partner Leadership Award. Robert and Mary Elyn McNichols, the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of McNichols & Associates, are the first recipients of this award. Mr. and Mrs. McNichols led Seabury’s initiatives to refinance and renovate Seabury at Friendship Terrace and Seabury at Springvale Terrace preserving a combined 326 affordable senior living units. These 45 and 50- year-old buildings remained occupied during the renovations and now have an updated infrastructure, additional safety features, accessible living quarters, and a welcoming décor. The McNichols have been regional leaders and innovators in senior living for the past 36 years serving as technical advisors and development consultants to more than 30 health care and retirement communities. Their combined expertise covers financing and negotiating HUD and other government loans, functional design, project management, and property and service management. They developed Coordinated Services Management, Inc. in 1981 which today manages 24 properties ranging from nursing homes and dementia care to assisted living and active retirement living communities.
Robert and Mary Elyn McNichols have delivered outstanding leadership to further Seabury’s mission to provide affordable housing options and services to help older adults in the greater Washington, DC area live with independence and dignity.
The 2015 Leadership in Aging Celebration will honor outstanding service to older adults in the greater Washington, DC area. The evening’s celebration will include a cocktail reception, dinner, a silent and live auction, and award presentation. Attendees will include industry professionals in the field of aging, clergy, lay leaders of local congregations, and committed individual donors. Proceeds will benefit all of Seabury Resources for Aging’s housing and services–particularly helping low income older adults who need care management, meals, housing, transportation, and help with home maintenance.
