Nobody Should Have To Be Alone

Nobody Should Have To Be Alone
This Giving Tuesday, everyone deserves support
Your mother has family to call when she falls. But what about the mother down the street who doesn’t?

“Our beloved mother may be provided for in some other way, but the mother of someone else may not be as fortunate.”
– 1936 Appeal to support Seabury
90 years later, that appeal remains just as urgent.
This year, we said goodbye to Eleanor.* She was 89 years old and had lived past most of her friends and family. When she first came to Seabury, she could pay for Care Management services herself. But as the years went on and her savings dwindled, she couldn’t.
That’s when the Seabury Equity Fund stepped in.
Thanks to donors like you, Eleanor never had to age alone. At the end of her life, her Care Manager—who had become like family—was there for her. Together with Eleanor’s faith community, they also ensured she had the dignified farewell she deserved.
This Giving Tuesday, your gift to Seabury helps ensure that everyone in our community—regardless of their bank account—can age with dignity, independence, and someone who cares.

Eleanor’s Story
She Didn’t Have to Age Alone
Eleanor came to us like many older adults do: independent, capable, but needing some help navigating the complexities of aging. She could afford Care Management then as a part of her support system.
But Eleanor lived into her late 80s, outliving her savings, most of her friends, and much of her family. The resources that once covered her care were gone, but her Care Manager was now her primary care partner.
Over the years, their relationship had deepened. The Care Manager, who started as a professional support, became someone Eleanor called family.
Without the Care Management Equity Fund, Eleanor would have faced an impossible choice: go without the support she’d come to rely on, or sacrifice other necessities to pay for care.
Instead, the Equity Fund subsidized her Care Management fees. Her Care Manager continued to visit, coordinate her medical appointments, connect her with community resources, and—most importantly—continued to be someone Eleanor could count on.
When Eleanor’s health declined, her Care Manager didn’t disappear. She was there, working alongside Eleanor’s faith community to ensure her final days were filled with dignity, comfort, and love. Together, they made sure Eleanor had the farewell she deserved.
Eleanor never had to age alone. And it’s because of donors like you.
Double Your Impact this Giving Tuesday
Good Housing. Good Food. Good Community. Good Resources.
For 101 years, Seabury has helped older adults live with independence and dignity through our Four Pillars of support. Care Management is just one example of how we serve over 6,000 older adults annually.
But here’s the reality: our residents, members, and clients are dealing grocery prices almost one-third higher than they were five years ago. Affordable housing is getting harder to find. People are more isolated than ever.
That’s where we step in.
Right now there are people just like Eleanor:
- The retired teacher in public housing, thankful for free lunches and trips to affordable grocery stores
- The mother who lost her sight late in life, but still has a lot to give
- The widower managing alone after a spouse’s medical bills depleted their savings
Seabury provides affordable services and housing that steps into the gap in people’s lives with support, providing Good Housing, Good Food, Good Community, and Good Resources where they’re needed.
Your Giving Tuesday gift ensures that no one in our community has to age alone, regardless of their bank account.
Want to make your gift go farther? Consider a monthly gift that provides a strong foundation for older adults all year long.
“Over the years, she became like family. Making sure family is taken care of—that’s what this work is really about.”
— Eleanor’s Care Manager
This Giving Tuesday, be the reason someone like Eleanor doesn’t have to age alone.
Quality support shouldn’t be a luxury available only to those who can afford it. Every older adult in our community deserves to age with dignity, independence, and someone who cares—even when their savings run out.
