care management’s 30th anniversary

We’re so proud that our Care Management program has been serving the DC region for 30 years!

“ESM Cares” was started in 1996 by Monica Micklos when Seabury Resources for Aging® was known as Episcopal Senior Ministries.  ESM Cares was established with the goal to provide services to older adults living in Northeast DC with the majority of its clients receiving some sort of subsidy (now known as the Equity Fund ) to allow those who could not afford private market rate care management the opportunity to receive it.

As the program gained a reputation for the personalized, high quality of service it provided- the demand for services at all incomes grew- regardless of the availability of subsidy. The program expanded to serve clients throughout DC, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County and into Northern Virginia and offered a Helpline for older adults and their family members to get connected to resources that could help them live with independence and dignity.

30 years later, Care Management has served over a thousand clients and now includes Life Enrichment Specialists who provide professional companionship to help older people stay engaged and connected to their interests and passions. Today, Care Management is one of the only practices in the region that continues to offer subsidies that make its services affordable for those of modest means.

In honor of the 30th Anniversary milestone, we are inviting people to share a few words below. Whether it’s a memory, note of appreciation for a special team member, encouragement for the program, or something else, we would love to hear from you! We will share these submissions as part of our year-long celebration of Care Management.

If you are unable to attend, but would still like to support Care Management, please leave us a message below!
