Springvale Terrace residents are actively involved in our community on a daily basis, serving on different committees as well as the resident council. Resident volunteers make daily friendly checks to ensure everyone’s safety.
The opportunity to remain active is valued by all residents. Springvale Terrace is home to residents from diverse backgrounds and cultures; many have enjoyed careers in science, health care, politics, academia, or served in military or foreign service.
Many residents are also actively engaging in their community outside of Springvale Terrace; some are still pursuing careers and continuing education, others are getting involved in activities at Senior Centers in the neighborhood or are sharing their time and talents as volunteers. Many residents take advantage of our close proximity to downtown Silver Spring where they enjoy local residents, the weekly farmers market and many cultural activities.
Meet a Resident - Mrs. B. (pictured left)
Just over a year ago, Mrs. B. moved to Springvale Terrace. She had been living a wonderful retirement lifestyle in the Pocono Mountains for many years. But her husband had been diagnosed with probable Alzheimer's Disease and she was unable to care for him alone as his condition deteriorated. After he moved to a nursing care facility, Mrs. B's son urged her to move closer to him. Her son and daughter-in-law were pleased to find Springvale Terrace right in their neighborhood! They are able to assist his mother with the on-going paperwork related to her husband's care and she can visit frequently.
A Brooklyn, NY native, Mrs. B. worked for the phone company and her husband for Consolidated Edison. They have 2 children, 2 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Mrs. B. particularly enjoys the activities program at Springvale and the friendly and outgoing residents and staff. "I feel safe here and the people are very nice."
